"If industrial-techno-ambient-rock is your thing; you're probably starved of a local band that can fit the mould. Not anymore. If there's such a thing as an original sound, The Third Storey Chemist have succeeded in creating it with their self-produced EP.
Influences seem to vary from Soulwax and Aphex Twin to the more Prog based Muse and Melt Banana, but would probably appeal to subscribers of Radiohead's 'Hail to the Thief' album.
It's dark, it's experimental, and your mum will definitely hate it. Some of the early are clearly hindered by the lack of a vocalist and seem a bit drawn out, but they save the best till last with oFFoNoFF, a fine example of what makes this kind of music work, and features the dirtiest bass sound you'll ever hear on record. The EP's low point is the third track, fifteen seconds of random drum sounds, and nothing more. It's either really pretentious or just a little joke on the part of the band. Either way, it might be better saved for later in their career. Overall an extremely promising debut, and one fans of alternative music everywhere should be seeking out."
